Al Mahmoud elected Chairman of the General Assembly

The Governing Council elected His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council; Chairman of the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the related meetings which kicked on Saturday April 6 and continue April 10.
This came during the opening session of the Governing Council yesterday (Sunday), in the presence of Her Excellency Gabriella Barron, President of the IPU, H E Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the IPU, and a number of speakers of international parliaments and parliaments.
H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Speaker of the Shura Council, said " we in Qatar, have selected the a theme of the general debate in this session, entitled "Parliaments as Platforms for Promoting Education for Peace, Security and the Rule of Law", noting that education is the basis for progress of States.
He added that “Development without education is useless, and development without security, stability, peace and law is also useless, highlighting that all participants are happy with this choice for the public debate session.
