Al Mahmoud Elected Board Chair of GOPAC

The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption chose Tuesday HE Speaker of Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud as its board chair from 2019 to 2021, in a unanimous vote that took place on the sidelines of its 7th conference that took place in Doha.

HE Speaker of the Shura Council expressed his appreciation to his colleagues for choosing him for the post. His Excellency stressed that the vote reflected the international community's appreciation for the efforts of the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the field of combating corruption.

His Excellency stressed that he will work with all parliamentarians on implementing the organization's plans, in addition to carrying out a number of initiatives and programs that will develop the organization's work. His Excellency expressed his appreciation for the confidence they placed in him.

He emphasized that the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption deserves all the support it could get from them as it constitutes a unique contribution in preventing and fighting corruption, and in achieving sustainable development for future generations in a world that is witnessing rapid and radical changes.

HE the Speaker of the Shura Council and Board Chair of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption thanked Dr Fadli Zon for his leadership of the organization and his wise management of its work and his efforts in developing its work and role during the last period from his broad horizon and his deep awareness of the size of the corruption problem and its negative effects. He also thanked the organization's board for their efforts.

For his part, the former Board Chair Zon expressed his confidence that the organization will play a big role in the future under the Qatari leadership.
