Shura Council holds its regular weekly session

The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting Monday under the chairmanship of its Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud.

  At the outset of the meeting, the Council appreciated HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's meeting with the Council's Speaker and members at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday.

The Shura Council affirmed that this important meeting and HH's speech during the opening of the 48th Ordinary Session of the Shura Council formed a roadmap and a platform for action for the next phase which requires more effort for the country and its citizens.

The Council then continued its meeting by discussing Decree Law No. 23 of 2019 amending some provisions of Law No. 21 of 2015 regulating the entry and exit of expatriates and their residence. After the discussion, the Council decided to transmit the Decree Law to the Internal and External Affairs Committee to study it and submit a report thereon to the Council.

The Council also discussed Decree Law No. 24 of 2019 regulating and managing the strategic stock of food and consumer goods. The Decree Law includes 23 articles, whereby strategic commodities may only be dealt with by those who are registered in the list of major suppliers or registered traders. The competent department supervises and manages the strategic stock and establishes and manages an electronic linking system to monitor and supervise the strategic stock. The Decree Law defines the obligations of the registered trader, as well as penalties for violators. After the discussion, the Council decided to transmit the Decree Law to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee to study it and submit a report thereon to the Council.

At the end of the meeting, HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud briefed the Council on the regional and international meetings attended by HE and accompanying delegations during the Council's holiday. These meetings include the Fourth Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries Parliament held from September 23 to 24, 2019, in Kazakhstan's capital of Nur-Sultan city, the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Belgrade from October 13 to 17, and the First Executive Council Meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Rize town of Turkey from October 25 to 28, 2019.

HE the Speaker also briefed the Council on his meetings held on the sidelines of these meetings with the heads of the participating Parliaments and a number of senior officials in these countries.
