HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met on Tuesday with HE President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament Rolando Gonzalez Patricio, on the sidelines of the parliamentary forum, held by the Shura Council in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as part of the 2nd World Summit for Social Development.
The meeting discussed the parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the parliaments of Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as ways to strengthen them in a manner that serves common interests and enhances consultation and coordination in regional and international parliamentary forums.
The two sides discussed a number of topics of common interest, particularly the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and the need to unify parliamentary stances in support of stopping the aggression and providing relief to the Palestinian people.
The meeting also addressed the voting mechanism for including emergency items on the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly, and the importance of developing it in a way that ensures fairness and transparency and enhances the effectiveness of joint parliamentary work at the regional and international levels.
