The Shura Council has participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, which was held over three days in the Iranian city of Mashhad.
The Shura Council was represented at the meeting by HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hatmi Al Hitmi, Council Member and Vice-President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, and HE Nasser bin Mutrif Al Humaidi, Council Member.
The meeting reviewed the Secretary-General's report on the Committee's work and activities. It also considered several draft resolutions concerning good governance, the rule of law and judicial empowerment, best parliamentary practices, and other topics.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the report of the Subcommittee on Palestine regarding the draft resolution entitled "The Steadfast Support of Asian Parliaments for the Palestinian People," which was adopted by the Political Affairs Committee at its meeting held in Baghdad, Iraq, last January. During the meeting, HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi emphasized that the Political Committee bears a significant responsibility in promoting the values of dialogue, building bridges of trust, and supporting the principles upon which the Asian Parliamentary Assembly is founded.
He stressed that this meeting comes at a critical regional juncture, imposed by the practices of the Israeli occupation and its illegitimate aggressions, including the aggression against the State of Qatar.
He also expressed his appreciation for the positions of the brotherly and friendly countries that condemned this aggression.
On the margin of the meeting, the Shura Council delegation participated in the Gulf Coordination Meeting, where several topics related to coordinating Gulf positions were discussed, in addition to reviewing the most prominent issues on the agenda of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly's Political Committee.
