The Shura Council held an official consultative session with the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) at the Council’s headquarters, in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations and shared cooperation. The Qatari side was chaired by Her Excellency Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, while the opposite side was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Rolando González Patrizio, President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament. During the session, both sides explored ways to enhance cooperation between them, exchange parliamentary experiences, and activate the memorandum of understanding. They also discussed a number of topics of mutual interest, especially those related to the Sustainable Development Goals in light of Doha hosting the second World Summit for Social Development and the “Doha Declaration” issued therefrom as a framework supporting global social development. The discussions also addressed parliamentary efforts aiming to establish peace in Palestine, and to address the consequences of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and its impact on all aspects of life in the sector, and the need to work on delivering humanitarian and relief assistance and providing basic needs to the population.
The session was attended by His Excellency Mr. Yousef bin Ali Al Khater and His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Sulaiti, Members of the Council. On the other side, the Parlatino was represented by His Excellency Mr. Elias Castillo, Secretary-General of the Parliament.
Furthermore, Her Excellency Dr Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Chair of the Shura Council, met with a number of parliamentarians who are currently visiting the country to attend the second World Summit for Social Development which concludes today in Doha, and to participate in the Parliamentary Forum held within the Summit’s work. She discussed with them ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation relations, alongside discussing a number of topics of mutual interest. Within this context, Her Excellency met with each of: His Excellency Mr Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union; Her Excellency Dr Inaya Az Eddin, Member of the Lebanese Parliament, Chair of the Parliamentary Women & Child Committee and Chair of the Parliamentary Sustainable Development Body; and Her Excellency Ms Seham Najm, Member of Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Chair of the Mauritania-Qatar Friendship Group.
