Shura Council Partakes in Meeting of European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with Arab Peninsula

The Shura Council participated Thursday via videoconferencing in the meeting of the Delegation for Relations with the Arab Peninsula in the European Parliament on climate change and renewable energy in the Gulf countries.


HE Khalid bin Ghanem Al Ali Al Maadheed, a member of the Shura Council, represented the Council in the meeting.


In his speech at the meeting, HE Khalid Al Maadheed pointed out that the State of Qatar attaches great interest to climate change, reviewing the initiatives that Qatar presented to reduce carbon emissions.


His Excellency pointed out the State of Qatar's commitment to reduce 25 percent of emissions by 2030, in compliance with the outcomes of the 2016 Paris Climate Agreement. He explained that to achieve this, the State of Qatar has adopted the best technologies and practices in the energy sector and waste management, noting the efforts made by the state to adopt clean and renewable energy such as solar energy and electricity.


The meeting also discussed the "European Green Deal" and the extent to which it can create channels for constructive cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and the role of the EU in supporting the attempts of its Gulf partners to diversify sources of income by mixing energy with other sources by expanding their capabilities in the field of green energy.


Also, it touched on the opportunities for sustainable economic development, in addition to discussing and exchanging views on climate change and renewable energy in the GCC states.
