Shura Council Participates in Opening of 16th Session of PUIC Conference

The Shura Council participated in the opening session of the 16th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC), in Istanbul, Turkey, with the presence of HE President of the sisterly Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.


The Shura Council delegation participating in the session was headed by HE Deputy Speaker of the Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti.


During his speech at the opening session, HE the Turkish President referred to the centrality of the Palestinian cause for all Muslims, stressing the need to unify the word and efforts to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.


His Excellency also touched on the scourge of the Afghan people, noting in the same context that the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has complicated the humanitarian situation worldwide.
HE Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) Muhammad Qureshi Nias, delivered the opening speech, in which he welcomed the participants and wished them success in their meetings.


The session's work will discuss the latest developments in the Islamic scene, in particular with regard to the Palestinian cause and efforts to support it, as well as the latest developments in Afghanistan and ways of cooperation to alleviate the suffering of the Afghan people. The session will also discuss ways of coordinating positions on the issues of the Islamic Ummah around the world.
