The Shura Council participated in the fourth seminar of the series “From Theory to Action: Parliamentarians Against Hatred Based on Religion or Belief,” organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, held via videoconference. The Council was represented in the event by H.E. Member Essa bin Ahmed Al-Naser.
The seminar, entitled “When Less Is Enough: Alternatives to Legislation in Combating Hatred Based on Religion or Belief,” discussed alternative means to legislation in addressing religious hatred and explored non-legislative mechanisms capable of supporting efforts to build more peaceful, inclusive, and just societies.
The seminar featured several international speakers with expertise in human rights and religious freedom, including members of the Canadian Senate, United Nations experts, and academics specializing in religious studies and minority rights.
