The Shura Council Participates in Parliamentary Seminar on Climate Change in Mountainous Areas

The Shura Council participated Friday in a parliamentary seminar organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union on adapting to climate change in mountainous areas and the role of parliamentarians in that regard. The event was held via video conference in cooperation with the Global Programme Climate Change and Environment of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Talks focused on the role parliaments can play in ensuring the implementation of commitments to international agreements, while ensuring that the safety of high areas remains a priority for their respective countries, given that the legislative response to climate change are in agreement with the Paris Climate Agreement and Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The talks also highlighted the importance of providing sufficient funding to implement the sustainable development goals.

The Shura Council was represented in the event by HE Member of the Council Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Rumaihi.
