The Shura Council participated in the GCC coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), held today via videoconference.
The Shura Council was represented at the meeting by H.E. Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, Member of the Shura Council.
The meeting discussed a number of topics, including the transfer of the Assembly’s interim Secretariat to the country holding the presidency, in light of the current circumstances and the difficulty of communicating with the Assembly’s Secretariat. It also discussed the continuation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s chairmanship of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development Affairs, given the difficulty of holding the Committee’s meeting in Tehran under the current circumstances, as well as the opening of nominations for the presidency of the Assembly for 2027.
The meeting also addressed participation in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs, scheduled to be held in Tajikistan from 24 to 27 September 2026, and discussed holding a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
