Shura Council Participates in Parliamentary Session within 'Effective Development Cooperation' Summit

The Shura Council participated Tuesday in a parliamentary session that was held via videoconferencing technology within the activities of the 'Effective Development Cooperation' Summit organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC).

HE member of the Shura Council Yousef Bin Ahmed Al Kawari represented the Shura Council in the session.

Held under the title: parliaments and effective development cooperation: the oversight challenge, the session was intended to highlight the different methods through which accountability can be enhanced with respect to the development cooperation through the parliamentary oversight.

The discussions focused on the importance of introducing the parliamentarians to the development cooperation concept and how the parliaments can enhance the utilization of resources more effectively and responsibly, in addition to discussing the most prominent challenges facing the parliamentarians when they fully embark on discharging their legislative and oversight functions.

In addition, GPEDC is an alliance that includes an array of the development actors such as governments, parliaments, local authority, civil society, private sector, unions and foundations from donor and recipient countries.
