The Shura Council participated in the panel discussions held today within the activities of the United Nations Office of Parliamentary Participation in Preventing and Countering Terrorism held in Doha.

The Shura Council was represented by HE Mohammed bin Eid Al Kaabi, HE Badi bin Ali Al Badi, and HE Abdullah bin Jaber Al Labada, members of the Council in those seminars that were held under the title "The Role of Parliamentarians in Implementing National Action Plans in Addressing Terrorism and Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism." The workshops included a presentation of the national action plans for Central Asian countries to implement national strategies to combat terrorism and extremism (the current situation, challenges and opportunities), and the United Nations strategy to combat terrorism, and discussions centered on the role of parliamentarians and parliamentary assemblies in implementing these plans.

These discussions aim to examine ways in which parliamentarians can contribute to the implementation of comprehensive national plans of action, by establishing a dialogue between parliamentarians on plans to prevent and combat violent extremism and national action plans, it also works to enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation regarding preventing and countering violent extremism, implementing national action plans, and improving parliamentarians' knowledge of the international legal framework for countering violent extremism.
