Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments and IPU Sign MoU

The Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), with the aim of cooperation, coordination and direct communication between the Association and the Union.

The memorandum was signed on the sidelines of the 145th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Kigali, Rwanda, and which concludes today.

On this occasion, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council and Chairman of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Ibrahim Al Fadala, stressed that the memorandum aims to activate the role of the Association at the international level, to enhance the exchange of experiences, and to facilitate the work of Arab parliaments within the corridors of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

His Excellency indicated that this signing came as a continuation of the negotiations that started between the two sides on the sidelines of the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held last March of this year on the Indonesian island of Bali.

The Association of Secretaries-General of the Arab Parliaments held a meeting yesterday, headed by HE Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Ibrahim Al Fadala, to discuss the request of the Association to join the Union as an observer member.
