Shura Council Participates in Discussion on Combating Terrorism

The Shura Council participated on Wednesday in discussions held within the activities of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in Doha.


HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti stressed during her participation in the discussions held under the title 'Role of Parliaments in Addressing Terrorism and Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism' that terrorism should not be linked to Islam or any religion, highlighting the noble values that the Islamic religion reinforces by spreading the values of tolerance, respect and openness to others, the rejection of violence, and other values.


Her Excellency affirmed that Islam fights terrorism and works to dry up its sources.


In this regard, HE Deputy Speaker referred to the factors that contribute to the existence of terrorism, including poverty, ignorance and unemployment, stressing that eliminating terrorism requires addressing its roots and factors.


These discussions seek to review ways in which parliamentarians can contribute to the implementation of comprehensive national action plans, by establishing a dialogue between parliamentarians on plans to prevent and combat violent extremism and develop national action plans.
