Shura Council Participates in 40th Extraordinary Session of AIPU Executive Committee

The Shura Council participated Tuesday in the 40th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held over two days in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The meeting was chaired by HE President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and Speaker of the Algerian National People's Assembly, Ibrahim Bougali.

HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, who is also a member of the AIPU Executive Committee and Vice-President of the Committee representing the Arab Group within the AIPU, was also in attendance.

The Shura Council was represented at the meeting by HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dosari, a member of the Council and a member of the AIPU's Executive Committee.

The meeting discussed a number of topics, most notably amending the voting mechanism for emergency items in the proceedings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, and reviewing the emergency item that the Arab Parliamentary Group intends to submit during the 152nd IPU Assembly, scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkiye, in April.

The meeting also reviewed the General Secretariat's report on the activities of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) during the past period, as well as the reports of the ad hoc Finance and Diplomatic Committees.

On the sidelines of the meeting, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, met with HE Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Musa Hadid to discuss parliamentary cooperation between the two councils and ways to strengthen it, in addition to several topics on the agenda of the AIPU Executive Committee, and exchanged views on them.
