Shura Council Participates in 144th General Assembly and 209th Session of IPU Governing Council

The Shura Council will participate in the meetings of the 144th General Assembly and the 209th session of the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which will be held at the island of Bali in the Republic of Indonesia from March 20 to 24.2022.


The delegation of the Shura Council participating in the work of the General Assembly is headed by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti.


The meetings of the 144th Assembly of IPU include: all the bodies of the IPU, including the Governing Council, the Standing Committees, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and IPU Committee on Middle East, in addition to the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.


On the sidelines of the General Assembly of the IPU, coordination meetings of Arab, Islamic, and Asian parliamentary groups will be held on March 19-20.


The discussions will provide a platform for parliamentarians to consult, exchange views, and seek to stimulate parliamentary action on a number of pressing issues, such as climate change, promoting democracy and human rights, youth participation, achieving security and arms control, promoting sustainable development efforts, and promoting information and communication technology as an aid to the education sector, including during times of the pandemic.


The Shura Council delegation includes HE Mohammed Bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi and HE Abdulla bin Ali Al Sulaiti, members of the council and HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadala.
