The Shura Council participated in the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) under the theme “Restoring Hope, Raising Ambition,”with the participation of ministers and high-level officials from across the Arab world, as well as representatives of UN organizations, civil society, and the private sector.
The Council was represented at the forum—hosted in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, over the course of three days and concluded yesterday—by H.E. Mr. Issa bin Ahmed Al-Nasr and H.E. Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al-Mansour Al-Kaabi, Members of the Shura Council.
Held as part of preparations for the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to be hosted by Doha in November 2025, the forum addressed challenges in financing development and assessed the Arab region’s progress on several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, and partnerships for the goals.
In his intervention at the forum, H.E. Mr. Issa bin Ahmed Al-Nasr reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s commitment to achieving the SDGs, highlighting the country’s humanitarian and developmental role in supporting sisterly Arab nations facing exceptional circumstances—through humanitarian aid and contributions to reconstruction and development efforts.
His Excellency commended ESCWA’s efforts in organizing the forum, praising the importance of such platforms in exchanging expertise and enhancing regional cooperation in the field of sustainable development. He also welcomed Qatar’s hosting of the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development, noting that this reflects Qatar’s firm commitment to supporting regional joint action in this vital area.
