The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development at the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), which was held Wednesday in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The meeting reviewed several draft decisions, which included the establishment of an Asian energy market, environmental issues, economic growth, poverty eradication, the role of APA parliaments in supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, "adopting a roadmap providing for measures to stimulate green finance", and the Asian Climate Finance Initiative.

In a statement on the sidelines of the meeting, HE Mohammed bin Eid Al Kaabi, a member of the Shura Council, confirmed that hotbeds of conflict in more than one region around the world lead to a state of security instability, and the resulting slowdown in achieving sustainable development, referring to the efforts of the State of Qatar and its constant pursuit, according to the directives of its wise leadership, to achieve peace and development, and its provision of humanitarian aid to brotherly and friendly countries.

His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar has achieved, in light of the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis and the challenges it left behind, great achievements within the economic transformation, especially in vital sectors such as oil, gas and petrochemicals, in addition to diversifying its economy and develop many other sectors such as tourism, industry, financial services and others, which promote sustainable development.

He pointed to Qatar's commitment, based on Qatar National Vision 2030, to achieving environmental sustainability by taking a number of steps to promote environmental preservation, through the implementation of many projects in this regard.

In his statement, HE Mohammed bin Eid Al Kaabi touched on the steps that the State of Qatar is taking internationally and locally toward achieving sustainable and balanced economic growth to achieve the goals of sustainable development and to focus on the human element as a crucial element in achieving sustainable success.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Shura Council delegation met delegations from a number of brotherly and friendly countries and discussed with them ways to enhance and develop joint parliamentary work.
