The Shura Council participated in a parliamentary session held within the WTO Public Forum, entitled “Strengthening Multilateralism Through Digital Trade: What is the Role of Parliaments?” organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the European Parliament, with the participation of parliamentarians and lawmakers from around the world, as well as representatives from the digital industry sector.
The Council was represented in the two-day session, held at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization (WTO)in Geneva and concluded today, by His Excellency Mr. Essa bin Ahmed Al-Nasr, Member of the Shura Council.
The session discussed the contributions and roles of parliamentarians in shaping digital technology policies that promote inclusive growth and global cooperation, as well as updating trade governance. It also highlighted the responsibility of parliaments in designing legislation that supports cross-border digital trade, ensures fair access for all, and strengthens the multilateral framework in an increasingly digital global economy.
