Shura Council Participates in Seminar on International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism

21 August 2025

The Shura Council participated today in the seminar “International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism: Educational Policies for Preventing Terrorism and Empowering Victims”, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) via videoconference. The Council was represented in the seminar by H.E. Member Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Obaidan.

The seminar, which brought together parliamentarians, education experts, civil society representatives, and victims’ representatives, discussed the crucial role of educational policies and strategies in preventing terrorism, the role of youth in prevention and recovery, and the empowerment of victims. Participants reviewed effective legislative measures, the role of global partnerships, and how education can be harnessed to combat violent extremism and promote human rights.

It is worth noting that 21 August of each year marks the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, a date designated by the United Nations to honor the memory of those affected by terrorism and to reaffirm the global commitment to justice, peace, and prevention. Through its initiatives, the Inter-Parliamentary Union encourages legislators to support inclusive educational frameworks that promote peace, human rights, and social cohesion.
