The Shura Council participated yesterday, via videoconferencing, in a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held as part of the 151st General Assembly of the Union, currently hosted by the city of Geneva.
The Council was represented in the meeting by Her Excellency Dr. Hamada bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Member of the Executive Committee of the IPU, and Vice-President of the Committee on behalf of the Arab Group.
The Committee’s discussions focused on a number of issues related to the Union’s work and developments in some of the member parliaments, in addition to reviewing membership matters and administrative and organizational reports, along with other items on the meeting’s agenda.
In a related context, Her Excellency Dr. Hamada bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti also participated, via videoconferencing, in the 54th Session of the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians, held today within the framework of the General Assembly. The meeting discussed evaluating the outcomes of the Assembly from a gender perspective, preparations for the next session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians scheduled for April 2026, and the upcoming activities of the IPU aimed at promoting gender equality.
The meeting also included the appointment of the Rapporteur for the 41st Session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, and discussions on ways to support women’s participation in parliamentary decision-making, as well as intensifying efforts to empower women in the fields of peace, development, and human rights.
