The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Chairs of the Legislative Councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States and the President of the European Parliament, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with the participation of Their Excellencies the Chairs of the GCC Legislative Councils and H.E. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.
The Shura Council was represented in the meeting by H.E. Youssef bin Ali Al Khater and H.E. Mohammed bin Mansour Al Shahwani, Members of the Council.
The meeting discussed the strategic relations between the GCC States and the European Union, highlighting the importance of strengthening the partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests, and advancing parliamentary dialogue to address current challenges such as climate change, energy security, combating terrorism, and promoting human values.
The participants also stressed the need to protect civilians and infrastructure in Gaza, immediately halt violations, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and achieve a two-state solution as the only path to peace.
On the sidelines of the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, received H.E. Youssef bin Ali Al Khater, as part of his reception of the GCC Legislative Council Chairs participating in the meeting.
During the meeting, they reviewed several issues of mutual interest and emphasized the importance of supporting GCC parliamentary work to enhance the path of joint Gulf action and meet the aspirations of GCC leaders and peoples for greater integration and coordination in various fields.
