The Shura Council participated in a seminar entitled “Using Committee on World Food Security Policy Products to Strengthen Parliamentary Action for the Transformation of Food and Agricultural Systems,” which was held via videoconference and organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), with the participation of representatives from a number of parliaments.
The Shura Council was represented at the seminar by H.E. Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kaabi, Member of the Council.
The seminar discussed the role of parliamentary policies in supporting food security, nutrition, and rural development, and reviewed best practices related to legislation and parliamentary oversight, in addition to facilitating the exchange of experiences among different parliaments.
The outcomes of the seminar’s discussions are expected to contribute to the preparatory process for the Third Global Parliamentary Summit Against Hunger and Malnutrition, which is scheduled to be held in South Africa next November.
