HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala expressed his delight that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated the first ordinary session of the first legislative term corresponding to the Shura Council's 50th annual session.
His Excellency indicated, in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the opening of the session, that the Shura Council witnessed today an historical event in the course of its legislative development and its path that was full of achievements over half a century. He noted that the council is now embarking on a new phase of its legislative development, in accordance with the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar, with the convening of the first Shura Council that elects two-thirds of its members.
His Excellency added that this important event comes on the back of the success of the elections of two-thirds of the council, in which the Qatari people proved their ability to practice democratic shura. His Excellency also said that all segments of the Qatari society showed that they were ready to be part of the decision making process, in line with the vision of HH the Amir.
His Excellency also praised the speech given by HH the Amir during the inauguration, noting that it was clear and comprehensive. He added that the speech also that it detailed to the Qatari people last year's many achievement, which came despite the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and global economic contraction. He added that the speech also highlighted all the projects that were completed, and those that are still ongoing, in addition to the State of Qatar's position on different regional and international issues.
His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Shura Council concluded his statement by extending congratulations the occasion of the inauguration of the first session of the new council. He also congratulated the members of the Shura Council for the precious trust they have received from the proud Qatari people, wishing them success in their work of laying the foundations for establishing a democratic shura experience, so that the country and citizens can achieve what they aspire to in terms of progress, pride and prosperity.
