Shura Council Speaker Participates in Islamic Parliamentary Group Meeting

HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim participated today in the coordinating meeting of the Islamic Parliamentary Group, on the sidelines of the 143rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, being held in the Spanish capital Madrid.

During the meeting, HE the Speaker of the Shura Council stressed the necessity of the unifying of positions and agreement regarding the inclusion of the emergency item on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, indicating that coordination and prior cooperation would succeed in efforts aimed to include the item which the Islamic group agree upon.

At the outset of the meeting, HE Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly gave a speech in which he referred to a set of topics related to Islamic parliamentary work. He pointed to the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of supporting it, and strengthening the parliamentary efforts of Islamic countries to stop the violations against the Palestinians and work to obtain their rights.

He also pointed to the cability of Islamic countries to joint work and fruitful cooperation, indicating that the common ties that bring together Islamic countries outweigh the causes of division and difference. To stop the violations against the Palestinians and work to achieve their rights.

For his part, HE Muhammad Qureshi Nias, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stressed the need to build bridges of cooperation and understanding within the Islamic nation to produce unified results and avoid disagreement as well as the need to discuss all issues related to joint cooperation in an atmosphere full of understanding and mutual respect.

During the meeting, areas of joint coordination of the Islamic Parliamentary Group were reviewed and topics on the agenda of the General Assembly were discussed.

The meeting was attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Spain Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Hamar, HE member of the Shura Council and Chairman of the Council's Internal and External Affairs Committee Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri and HE Secretary-General of the Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Fadala.
