The Shura Council Participates in APA Coordination Meeting

The Shura Council participated today in a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), on the sidelines of the 143rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that is currently taking place in Madrid.

Representing the council in the meeting were Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi, Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, Mohammed bin Omar Al Mannai, members of the council.

HE Speaker of The Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Sentop gave a speech during the meeting highlighting the importance of understanding the challenges facing Asia. He noted that parliamentary diplomacy will play a key role of overcoming these challenges.

He pointed out the importance of harmony with the changes by strengthening the role of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, by moving members responsibly by adopting the group's agenda, calling on the international community to work to end the humanitarian crises in the world, which contributes to ending crises extending from the Middle East to Africa.

His Excellency stressed, at the same time, the need for the assembly strengthen its cooperation between them in order to establish security, peace and stability in the region and the world.

The meeting also dealt with reviewing a number of topics on the agenda of the general assembly. It also reviewed a report presented by the assembly's secretary-general on the APA's activities, and the future policies that should be adopted.
