Al-Shura Participates in Meeting of IPU Committee on UN Affairs

The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs, within the work of the 143rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), currently being held in Madrid.

The Council was represented in the event by HE Nasser bin Mohammad Al Juffali Al Nuaimi and HE Nasser bin Hassan bin Dandoun Al Kubaisi, members of the Shura Council.

The meeting focused on the topic of the global vaccination campaign to end the Covid-19 Pandemic.

In his intervention during the meeting, HE Nasser bin Mohammad Al Juffali Al Nuaimi touched on the International Campaign (COVAX) saying that it aims to equitably distribute vaccines and enable developing countries to obtain their share, and to avoid the superpowers' acquisition of vaccines, as happened at the beginning of the pandemic's spread.

His Excellency added, that thanks to the wise directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the State of Qatar has made great efforts to help friendly countries to meet the challenges of obtaining the vaccine, and also provided USD 10 million to the COVAX campaign.

His Excellency pointed out that the State of Qatar will provide one million free doses to fans of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 teams, which will be held next year in Qatar, just as it has provided free vaccines for all citizens and residents living in Qatar.

His Excellency also stressed the need for the World Health Organization to develop a clear plan with specific numbers and precise roles for each country to obtain the desired results in the efforts to combat the pandemic.
