The Shura Council participated today in the openings session and day one of the Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network in Baku. The conference was inaugurated by HE President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in the attendance of HE Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Dr. Sahiba Gafarova.
The council's delegation was represented HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sualiti and included HE Youssef bin Ali Al Khater, and HE Nasser bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi.
The three-day conference will deal with the role of the movement in tackling challenges facing peace, security, and sustainable development. It will also affirm the important role parliamentarians can play in adhering to the movement's principles.
On the sidelines of the conference, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council met with HE the deputy head of the local council of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fudail Ibrahimly, and HE head of the Azerbaijani-Qatari inter-parliamentary working group Tahir Rzayev. The meeting dealt with reviewing parliamentary cooperation between the two sides and the means to enhance them, in addition to discussing a number of issues on the conference's agenda.
