Shura Council Discusses Forming Parliamentary Friendship Groups, Studying Social Insurance, Military Retirement Draft Laws

The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly meeting under the chairmanship of HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.


At the outset of the session, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala read out the agenda of the session. The minutes of the previous session were approved.


At the beginning of the deliberations, the Council touched upon the issue of forming Qatari parliamentary friendship groups with the parliaments of brotherly and friendly countries to strengthen the joint cooperation relations between the Shura Council and the parliaments of those countries in various fields of parliamentary work, exchanging views on bilateral relations and regional and international issues, benefiting from the experiences of countries that have good parliamentary experience, and exchanging experiences in the parliamentary fields.
In this context, HE Speaker of the Council indicated that the formation of parliamentary friendship groups and activating their role contributes significantly to the consolidation of relations and cooperation in accordance with the principles of international law. It also increases cooperation and understanding between delegations of the Shura Council and delegations of parliaments of friendly and brotherly countries in deliberations and discussions of international and regional parliamentary bodies to coordinate positions, as well as enhance understanding between people to achieve their hopes and aspirations, he added.


In turn, the members of the Council praised this trend, stressing that the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups would achieve the common good, the interests of brotherly and friendly peoples, and support the experience of the Shura Council by strengthening relations and increasing understanding.


Afterward, the Council reviewed a brief report presented by HE Abdul Rahman bin Yousuf Al Khulaifi, chairman of the joint committee of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee and Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, on what had been accomplished in the study of the social insurance and military retirement draft laws. The committee is in the process of submitting its final report to the council.


In this context, HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim praised the achievements of the joint committee in studying the two aforementioned draft laws, stressing the need to complete the final report as soon as possible. He emphasized the importance of these two laws and the aspiration of retired citizens to issue them in a way that contributes to improving their lives in the implementation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's directives to achieve the welfare of the citizen.


For their part, the members of the Council valued the efforts made by the committee during its study of the social insurance, and military retirement draft laws, by hosting representatives of the competent authorities to clarify all aspects of the aforementioned laws to achieve the interest of the citizens who placed their trust in the Council.


The members affirmed that the Shura Council puts in mind the interest of the country and citizens by studying draft laws carefully and thoroughly and discussing all the details to reach the goal that the Council seeks to achieve, which is achieving the aspirations and hopes of citizens by providing a decent life guaranteed to them by the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar, confirmed by the directives of HH the Amir.


Moreover, HE Speaker of the Council indicated that the country will soon celebrate the National Sports Day, stressing the importance of participating in the activities of the Sports Day, which falls on Tuesday in the second week of February every year.


In this context, His Excellency noted the State of Qatar attaches great interest to sports, which is embodied in dedicating a day annually, where everyone participates in different types of sports. His Excellency urged everyone to engage in Sports Day activities and exercise as a lifestyle, and not limit it to a specific day, as sports plays an important role in promoting health at the individual level, which is reflected in the health of the whole society.
