10th Conference of the Association of General Secretaries of Arab Parliaments in Doha

Under the slogan “Digital democracy and social communication and the role of parliaments in promoting them,” the tenth conference of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, organized by the Shura Council over two days at the Sheraton Doha Hotel.

The conference will be attended by more than 80 participants from general secretaries and representatives of Arab parliaments and legislative councils, as well as representatives of Arab parliamentary organizations and federations. The conference will be attended by H.E. Kamel Farid Sha 'raoui, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament, H.E. Mr. Fayez Shawabneh, Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, will participate in the conference. His Excellency Dr. Al-Saeed Moghaddam, Secretary-General of the Shura Council of the Arab Maghreb Union.

The programme for the first day of the Conference will include an opening ceremony with official speeches by the Consultative Council and the Assembly of General Secretaries of Arab Parliaments. The forty-third plenary meeting of the Assembly will then be held, where the amendment and approval of the rules of procedure will be discussed and the guide to the Secretary-General's terms of reference in Arab parliaments will be discussed and approved. The Doha Conference is therefore of great importance because it will see the completion of the discussion of these two topics in preparation for their adoption.

The General Assembly meeting will also see the approval of the draft general budget, the adoption of the final account and the review of a report on the outcome of the Assembly's work since its last meeting, held on the sidelines of the thirty-fourth conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union, held in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad last February. The Conference's second day programme will include honouring former secretaries-general in Arab parliaments. It will be preceded by a workshop on digital democracy, which will serve as a basis for discussion among participants, while reviewing exemplary practices and sharing experiences and experiences in this area.

The State of Qatar, represented by the Shura Council, has been chairing the Assembly of General Secretaries of Arab Parliaments since the election of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Fadala, Secretary General of the Shura Council as President of the Assembly, on the sidelines of the Assembly meeting held in Cairo in February.

The Association, based in Kuwait, is working to bring together the Secretaries-General with a view to improving Arab parliamentary work and coordinating Arab positions on various issues and issues.

The Assembly's membership includes the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament, the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentary Union and the Secretary-General of the Shura Council of the Arab Maghreb Union.
