Shura Council Participates in 33rd Session of Executive Committee of Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Shura Council participated in the 33rd session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union held Tuesday in Baghdad, Iraq.

HE member of the Shura Council Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabet Al Dosari represented the council in the committee's meeting that discussed a range of financial and administrative topics, along with the draft agenda of the 36th conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union.

In its final statement, the committee urged the Arab parliaments and councils to unify the Arab position in the upcoming conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union due to be held in Geneva in March to further underscore the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and the return of Palestinians to their homeland from which they have been unjustly displaced.

The statement called on the United Nations Security Council to be fairer and decisive in handling the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the entire occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to compelling the Zionist occupation authorities to cease the policy of ethnic cleansing, genocide, the bombardment of civilian facilities, such as schools and hospitals, desecration of holy places and ensure the provision of the international protection to the Palestinian people.

The meeting reaffirmed that the cause of the Palestinian people will remain the first issue of Arab nations and supporting the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, maintaining the mosque, regulating the access to the mosque, and rejecting all attempts of displacing the Palestinian brothers from the occupied West Bank.

What is happening in occupied Palestine, specifically in the Gaza Strip which has been under siege for a long time are unspeakable crimes against humanity and flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the UN Security Council resolutions, the statement stressed.

In another context, the statement of the executive committee congratulated the State of Qatar for winning the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, along with the good organization and preparation, and also congratulated the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan after its national football team came in the second place, besides with the stellar performance in the tournament.
