The Shura Council Participates in IPU 144th General Assembly Opening Session

The Shura Council participated today in the opening session of the 144th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), hosted in Indonesia's Bali over five days.


The Shura Council's delegation was chaired by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti. The opening session was attended by HE President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.


The meetings of the 144th Assembly of IPU include: all the bodies of the IPU, including the Governing Council, the Standing Committees, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and IPU Committee on Middle East, in addition to the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.


This year's meeting will provide a platform for parliamentarians to consult, exchange views, and seek to stimulate parliamentary action on a number of pressing issues, such as climate change, promoting democracy and human rights, youth participation, achieving security and arms control, promoting sustainable development efforts, and promoting information and communication technology as an aid to the education sector, including during times of the pandemic.
