Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Lauds Qatar's Mediation Efforts in Gaza

 The Shura Council took part in the 51st meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), held via ZOOM on Thursday.

HE Shura Council Member and deputy speaker of PAM Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie represented the Council in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed of the latest developments in the situation in the Middle East region, where Chairperson of the First Permanent Committee on Political Cooperation and Security Issues in Parliament Senator Alia Boran, presented a report on the situation in the Gaza Strip, which is still subject to brutal aggression by the Israeli occupation forces.

In this context, Senator Boran praised the mediation efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar to calm the situation, which resulted in the release of a number of hostages, reaching a humanitarian pause, opening safe corridors, and delivering humanitarian and relief aid to the brotherly Palestinian people.

During the meeting, the Mediterranean Parliament Office appreciated the Qatari mediation, and the members, led by president of PAM Senator Enaam Mayara reiterated their thanks and appreciation for the role of the State of Qatar, hoping that these continued efforts would result in a permanent ceasefire.

HE Al Subaie thanked and highly rated the PAM's stance toward the Qatari efforts in Gaza, noting the continuation of these efforts in cooperation with partners in the region and the international community to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

His Excellency affirmed the position of the Shura Council that strongly rejects the brutal crimes committed by the occupation forces in Gaza and the occupied territories against civilians, their forced displacement, and their repeated targeting of residential communities, health and educational facilities, and infrastructure, calling on all parliaments of the world to condemn these crimes, and to put pressure on governments and international organizations to denounce and work to bring them to an end.

His Excellency pointed out the Shura Councils firm position regarding the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, most notably the establishment of its independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative.

His Excellency highlighted Qatar's active role and mediation efforts to protect the Palestinian people and to find ways to resolve the current crisis.

The meeting also discussed a number of topics, special financial and administrative reports, PAM's achievements, and the program of its General Assembly scheduled to be held next year.

The State of Qatar, represented by the Shura Council, has a permanent membership in the PAM, which is an international organization that enjoys a UNGA observer status.
