Shura Council to Participate in 147th IPU Assembly in Angola

The Shura Council will participate in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related meetings, commencing in the Angolan capital, Luanda, on Monday.

The Assembly and its related meetings will run for five days, under the theme of "Parliamentary action for peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16)." The work of the IPU Assembly will include the 212th session of the Governing Council, electing the Assembly's President and Vice-Presidents, electing the IPU President, adopting resolutions on the emergency item on the agenda, in addition to holding the Second Global Parliamentary Summit on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism: the Global Response to the Call of the Sahel.

The Shura Council, represented by HE Shura Council Member, IPU Committee on Peace and International Security chairperson Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi participated in the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group, held on Sunday, in preparation for the IPU Assembly.

The meeting witnessed an exchange of opinions on the request to include an emergency item on the agenda of the Assembly, in addition to agreeing on the Arab Group's candidates for the IPU committees' vacant positions.

The Shura Council's delegation to the IPU Assembly will include a number of Shura Council members.
