The Shura Council participates in the 147th General Assembly session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Today, the Shura Council participated in the plenary session of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, currently held in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

The Council was represented at the session by His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Dosari, His Excellency Mr. Muhammad bin Mahdi Al-Ahbabi, His Excellency Mr. Saad bin Ahmed Al-Misnad, His Excellency Mr. Khalid bin Abbas Kamal Al-Emadi, His Excellency Mr. Issa bin Arar Al-Rumaihi, and His Excellency Mr. Umair bin Abdullah. Al Nuaimi, members of the Shura Council.

The session included speeches by the presidents and representatives of the member assemblies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which addressed the main topic of the General Assembly for this session, related to parliamentary work for peace, justice and strong institutions.

In the Shura Council’s speech before the plenary session, His Excellency Member Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Peace and Security of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, stressed the great interest that the State of Qatar attaches to the goals of sustainable development, and its rejection of violence and terrorism, regardless of its motives and causes, as it is a source of threat to peoples and nations. This requires continued and intensified efforts to eradicate and eradicate it.

His Excellency member pointed out the emphasis included in the Qatar National Vision 2030 within the pillar of social development, on the importance of public security and safety, pointing in this context to the role of Qatar as an active member in the international coalition to combat terrorism and a supporter of the international and regional efforts made within the framework of international legitimacy to eliminate That phenomenon.

Regarding strong and effective institutions, during his speech, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi reviewed the efforts of the State of Qatar to strengthen its institutions, which is consistent with the goals of its National Vision 2030 on the one hand, and supports the goals of sustainable development on the other hand, by building the institutional and organizational capabilities of its national institutions.

His Excellency stated that the main theme of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union for this session expresses the urgent need for peace and achieving justice, stressing that achieving this depends on cooperation and joint work through strong national institutions characterized by integrity, transparency and neutrality, and including the sixteenth goal of the sustainable development goals in national legislation and policies.

On the other hand, His Excellency Member Muhammad bin Mahdi Al-Ahbabi drew attention to the suffering of the Palestinian brothers in Gaza due to the aggression against defenseless civilians, stressing that this is a blatant violation of human rights and a blatant challenge to the international community.

His Excellency pointed to the grave challenges facing parliamentarians, given the failure of a large number of countries to achieve sustainable development goals, in addition to the natural disasters and political unrest that these countries are exposed to, which have led to a loss of food security, faltering supply chains, and the spread of famine.

His Excellency went on to explain the role assigned to parliamentarians, through enacting legislation and adopting budgets and their role in ensuring accountability for the implementation of commitments, stressing the importance of the role of parliamentarians as essential partners in implementing the goals of the Sustainable Development Plan, and praising the vital and effective role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, national parliaments and parliamentarians around the world. At all stages of implementing sustainable development.

In another context, His Excellency touched on the efforts of the State of Qatar in international mediation, and its emphasis that dialogue is the only way to resolve crises, given that conflicts, wars and instability are a major factor in preventing development, stressing that Doha’s success in its good endeavors is due to credibility and transparency. which it adopts, and its standing at the same distance from the parties.

On the sidelines of the session, His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Dosari, His Excellency Mr. Saad bin Ahmed Al-Misnad, His Excellency Mr. Khalid bin Abbas Kamal Al-Emadi, and His Excellency Mr. Issa bin Arar Al-Rumaihi, members of the Shura Council, met with Her Excellency Ms. Tulia Axon, Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, During the meeting, a number of topics related to parliamentary cooperation relations between the two sides were reviewed, in addition to a review of the most important topics on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
