The Shura Council participates in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Today, the Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as part of the work of the 147th General Assembly of the Union, which is currently being held in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

The Council was represented at the meeting by His Excellency Mr. Khalid bin Abbas Kamal Al Emadi, Member of the Shura Council.

During the meeting, the committee discussed the topic of “promoting access to environmentally friendly energy at an affordable cost, and ensuring innovation, responsibility, and fairness.”

In an intervention by His Excellency Member Khaled Al-Emadi on the topic of discussion, His Excellency referred to the role of the State of Qatar in the field of using clean energy, pointing to Doha’s hosting of the Horticultural Expo during the current period, which provides a global platform for efforts to combat desertification and use modern agricultural techniques.

During his intervention, His Excellency touched on Qatar's efforts to promote the use of clean energy, pointing to Qatar's initiative to plant 10 million trees by 2030, which comes within the framework of Doha's support for the Green Middle East Initiative launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during 2021.

In addition, His Excellency also referred to the opening of the “Al Kharsaa” solar energy station last year, indicating in this aspect that the station, which has an area of ten square kilometers and includes more than 1,800,000 solar panels, contributes to covering the equivalent of 10 percent of the country’s need. The country has no electricity.

His Excellency also pointed to Qatari investments in the electric car industry, which aim to reduce carbon emissions by strengthening the environmentally friendly car industry sector.
