Shura Council Participates in Parliamentary Debate on the Impact of Discriminatory Laws, Women's Empowerment

The Shura Council participated Tuesday in a parliamentary discussion on gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Implementation of the Beijing Parliamentary Declaration held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UN Women, through video communication technology.

The discussion focused on the impact of discriminatory laws and the lack of legal protection experienced by approximately 2.5 billion women and girls around the world, how to guide and support parliaments to enact legislation that responds to the interests of women, identify inequalities in their legal frameworks and undertake legal reforms to empower women and girls.

The Shura Council was represented in this discussion by HE Member of the Council and member of the Bureau of the IPU of Women Parliamentarians Reem bint Mohammed Al Mansoori.
