Delegation from Shura Council Meets UN Official

A delegation of Shura Council participating in the 9th Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, met with HE Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) based in Vienna Dr. Ghada Waly.


At the beginning of the meeting, Her Excellency praised the Shura Council elections that were held in the State of Qatar, praising the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in supporting popular participation. Her Excellency added that the elected Shura Council will help in developing legislation supporting the fight against corruption and organized crime of all kinds.


During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between the Shura Council and the United Nations were reviewed, especially with regard to the role of women and youth in parliaments around the world, and the support that should be provided to such groups. In addition, the two sides agreed to coordinate to unify the efforts of parliaments around the world in anti-corruption issues and the continuation of cooperation in all areas of common interest. The Shura Council delegation includes HE Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri, HE Nasser bin Mutref Al Humaidi, and HE Salem bin Rashid Al Muraikhi, members of the Council.
