Shura Council Illuminates Its Building in Blue in Celebration of World Autism Awareness Day

02 April 2026

The Shura Council illuminated its building in blue today, as part of the State of Qatar’s participation in marking World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on 2 April. This comes within the framework of the global campaign organized by Autism Speaks under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Matters.”
The designation of this day each year stems from an initiative put forward by the State of Qatar and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, with the aim of enhancing societal awareness of autism spectrum disorder and encouraging countries to take the necessary measures to support individuals affected by it and integrate them into society.
The State of Qatar continues to exert sustained efforts in supporting autism spectrum disorder issues at the international level. Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser played a key role in advancing the adoption of World Autism Awareness Day during the sixty-second session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, which was approved unanimously, reflecting the State’s commitment to raising global awareness, supporting individuals with autism, and empowering their effective integration into society.
Autism spectrum disorder is considered a developmental condition that appears in the early years of life and affects communication and social interaction skills, underscoring the need for concerted efforts to raise awareness and provide the necessary support to affected individuals and their families.
