The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall on Monday, under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim.
During the session, the Council approved a draft law on combating doping in sports and referred it to the esteemed government after having reviewed the report of the Education, Culture, Sports, and Information Affairs Committee and discussing its details with their Excellencies the members.
The Council also reviewed the esteemed government's statement regarding the Shura Council's proposals on reorganizing and monitoring domestic worker recruitment offices. The Council decided to refer it to the Social Affairs, Labor, and Housing Committee for study and to report back on its findings.
The Shura Council had discussed the aforementioned topic in previous sessions and concluded by submitting a proposal to the esteemed government, which included the Council's views on the matter.
Moreover, the council reviewed two reports on its participation in two parliamentary events: the meeting of the Coalition of Women Parliamentarians from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women, held via videoconferencing in November 2024, and the 37th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in Cairo last February.
At the end of the session, HE Speaker Al Ghanim briefed the members on his participation, leading the Council's delegation to the 38th Conference of the AIPU, which concluded yesterday in Algeria under the theme "The Role of the AIPU in Light of Regional and International Changes".
His Excellency explained that the conference discussed the challenges facing the region, as well as a number of issues and challenges facing the Arab nation, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and the tragic developments it is witnessing in light of the ongoing attacks against the brotherly Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
HE Al Ghanim also noted that the conference issued a final statement praising the prominent role played by the State of Qatar in supporting the Palestinian cause, appreciating its efforts to continue delivering humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip.
HE the Council Speaker stated that the Union, in his statement, also welcomed the memorandum submitted by the State of Qatar to the International Court of Justice regarding its request for an advisory opinion on Israel's obligations regarding the presence and activities of the UN, other international organizations, and third states. He emphasized the importance of this memorandum in supporting relief and humanitarian organizations and ensuring a decent living for the Palestinian people.
