The Shura Council State of Qatar

The Shura Council participated today in a roundtable organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union via videoconference under the theme “Towards Effective Action for the Right to a Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment.”
The Shura Council was represented at the roundtable by H.E. Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kaabi, Member of the Shura Council.
Participants discussed the role of parliaments in enacting legislation, activating oversight mechanisms, and allocating the necessary resources to advance the right to a clean and sustainable environment. They also exchanged examples and parliamentary practices relating to legislative measures and policies in this field.
The participants further discussed challenges related to climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation with human rights institutions, civil society and relevant stakeholders.
