The Shura Council participated today in the consultative session organized by the Parliamentary Women Bureau of the Inter-Parliamentary Union via videoconference, within the framework of the ongoing consultations to assess the implementation of the Union’s strategy for the period 2022–2026 and to prepare for drafting the upcoming five-year strategy.
The Council was represented at the session by Her Excellency Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Vice-Chair of the Committee representing the Arab Group, and member of the Parliamentary Women Bureau of the Union.
The session reviewed participants’ views on priorities for the coming phase, including enhancing the role of women, while emphasizing the need to take into account the needs and interests of women and girls within the orientations of the Union’s new strategy.
Participants also discussed the rapid expansion in the use of technology and digitalization and the profound transformations this imposes on various sectors, in addition to the impact of successive wars and crises on stability and development. In this context, they stressed the importance of focusing on supporting peace processes, mediation, and dialogue as essential tools for addressing conflicts, while underscoring the necessity of effectively involving women in these processes, as a fundamental element in achieving comprehensive and sustainable peace.
Participants further emphasized the importance of building effective partnerships with civil-society institutions and the private sector in order to enhance joint efforts, broaden impact, and achieve more inclusive and effective responses to current challenges.
A comprehensive report containing the outputs of the work of external consultants is scheduled to be presented during the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which Doha will host next week.
