The Shura Council has concluded its participation in the 19th session of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and the 54th meeting of its Bureau, which were hosted in Rome, Italy, over three days and concluded today.
The Shura Council delegation was led by Her Excellency Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, and included Their Excellencies Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al-Subaie and Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al-Mansour Al-Kaabi.
The General Assembly deliberated on several reports and topics, including intercultural dialogue and human rights, human trafficking during complex crises in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, the right to access clean drinking water and sanitation as a fundamental human right, as well as economic, social, and environmental cooperation.
Additionally, discussions covered the challenges facing economic growth in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, biodiversity conservation, combating climate change and desertification, geopolitical and security development efforts in the region, and emerging threats posed by terrorist and criminal activities in PAM member states.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Her Excellency Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti held separate meetings with His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Abu Al-Einin, Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives; His Excellency Mr. Zein El-Abidine Mounir, a member of the Mauritanian-Qatari Friendship Group in the Mauritanian National Assembly; and His Excellency Mr. Reinhold Lopatka, Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with the Arabian Peninsula. The meetings focused on enhancing parliamentary cooperation and discussing issues addressed by the General Assembly, as well as other topics of mutual interest.
Furthermore, the General Assembly elected His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al-Subaie, a member of the Shura Council, as Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and a member of its Bureau for the second consecutive term. The election process also resulted in the selection of His Excellency Mr. Giulio Centemero from Italy as the President of the Assembly for the 2025–2026 term.
The Shura Council delegation also participated in the 54th meeting of the PAM Bureau, where discussions centered on key issues and strategic initiatives to be implemented in the coming years. The meeting also reviewed reports on the activities of the Assembly’s standing committees, the timetable for implementing activities for the 2025–2026 parliamentary term, and preparations for the third edition of the PAM Marrakesh Economic Forum, scheduled for May. This forum is expected to serve as a strategic platform to promote economic integration and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
