The Shura Council State of Qatar

The Shura Council participated in the third Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Mediterranean and Gulf regions that was held in Marrakesh, Morocco, over two days under the theme: "Unprecedented Economic, Trade and Energy Challenges."

The Council was represented at the forum by HE Shura Council Member and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, and HE Council Member Amair bin Abdulla Alnaemi.

In his speech at the forum, HE Abdullah Al Subaie emphasized that the State of Qatar, by adopting policies of economic openness and preventive diplomacy, plays a pivotal role in building regional partnerships and contributes to achieving stability and development through clean energy projects, economic connectivity, and pioneering environmental legislation. He noted major investments and national initiatives to support the transition towards sustainability and a circular economy.

His Excellency stressed Qatar's continued intensive efforts, alongside the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, to mediate an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, which has resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and injuries, most of them women and children. He also emphasized the need for the entry of aid and medicine into the Gaza Strip.

His Excellency reiterated that the just solution lies in enabling the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, as this is the only way to achieve security and stability in the region.

The forum's sessions addressed ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, and noted the importance of joint policies to address the challenges of energy, digitalization, and geopolitical transformations as well as the development of legislative mechanisms that support investment and integration in infrastructure and renewable energy and enhance the governance of artificial intelligence.

On the sidelines of the forum, the Council delegation met with HE Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia Afrim Gashi, and HE head of the delegation of the parliament of the Republic of Montenegro Dejan Durovic. The two meetings addressed a number of topics related to strengthening parliamentary cooperation as well as exchanging views on the most prominent issues raised during the forum.
