The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, held on Wednesdayآ in Moscow, Russia.
The Shura Council was represented at the meeting by HE Vice President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, and HE member of the Council Yousef bin Ahmed Al Sada.
The meeting discussed several items on the agenda, including the election of the Executive Bureau, the presentation of the Secretary-General's report on the Committee's activities, and the adoption of the Russian draft resolution on preserving cultural diversity and promoting multilateral cooperation in Eurasia.
The resolution emphasized the importance of this diversity and dialogue among peoples for achieving peace and sustainable development.
The meeting also reviewed the situation of women parliamentarians in Asia and ways to support their participation in parliamentary work. During the discussions, HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi gave remarks that included a proposal to amend the mechanism for submitting draft resolutions for discussion and adoption at the meetings of the Assembly's standing committees.
He explained that this amendment would enhance work efficiency and strengthen institutional coordination within the committees.
His Excellency also suggested including the topic of socialization in the discussions, given its crucial importance in building society and instilling human and developmental values.
Furthermore, the Shura Council, represented by HE Eng. Al Hitmi, participated in the meeting of the Bureau of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, held on the sidelines of the committee's work.
The participants discussed ways to develop Asian parliamentary work and enhance coordination among specialized committees to serve the Assembly's objectives of supporting joint regional cooperation.
The Bureau meeting also discussed the Shura Council's preparations to host the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly's Committee on Budget and Planning, scheduled for next December.
