The Shura Council held this morning its regular weekly meeting. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Bin Abdulla Bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud, the Speaker of the Shura Council.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Council discussed its draft annual budget for the year 2019.

The Council also discussed a draft law on the genetic DNA. According to the draft law a genetic DNA database shall be established in the Ministry of Interior and will be under the competent department in the Ministry.

It will be solely for storing the genetic DNA fingerprints indicated in the draft law.

The data shall be saved for thirty years and then deleted after the expiration of this period.

The data recorded in the genetic DNA database is confidential and cannot be accessed without the permission of the Minister of Interior, or the Department of Public Prosecutions, or the competent court.

The biological samples thus taken shall not be used for purposes other than the ones set forth in the draft law, which defines the penalties that will be applied to violators.
The Council thereafter decided to refer the draft law to the Internal and External Affairs Committee to study the draft law and to submit its report thereon to the Council.

At the end of the meeting H. E. Mr. Ahmed Bin Abdulla Bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud briefed the Council about his meeting last Wednesday with Dr. Nils Schmidt, the member of the German Bundestag and the spokesman for the German Social Democratic Party Group in the Bundestag for the Foreign Affairs and his entourage, whereat the bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany were discussed and the ways of bolstering and advancing them in the parliamentary area were explored.

The German Parliamentarian praised the considerable progress the State of Qatar is witnessing in various fields, Qatar’s distinguished role in regional and international arenas and its appreciable efforts for peace and stability in the region and the world. He further expressed his pleasure with Doha hosting the next session of the IPU General Assembly optimistically hoping its success.
