Shura Council Participates in a Parliamentary Meeting on Human Rights, Civil Society and Combating Terrorism

The Shura Council participated in the parliamentary meeting held on the sidelines of the High-Level International Conference on Human Rights, Civil Society and Counter-Terrorism. UNOCT in Malaga, Spain.


The Shura Council was represented at the meeting organized by the UNOCT Program Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism (based in Doha) in partnership with the Shura Council, by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti.


HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council , in a speech delivered via video communication technology, stressed the important role that parliaments play in formulating policies and enacting legislation, especially in the field of combating terrorism, preventing it and drying up its sources.


Her Excellency pointed out that achieving this goal can only be achieved with the cooperation of all countries at the global level, and concerted efforts at the national level, reviewing the efforts of the State of Qatar in this field through its effective contribution to regional and international efforts, through the implementation of the measures included in the United Nations strategy that was adopted Since 2006, implementing all resolutions and measures issued by the Security Council related to combating terrorism and its financing.


During the speech, Her Excellency drew attention to the important role played by civil society organizations in mobilizing energies and helping to mobilize different groups of people to support initiatives adopted by governments and legislated by parliaments.


Her Excellency stressed the importance of this meeting in reaching the best and most successful ways to determine the means by which parliamentarians will be able to work with civil society organizations to enhance the tasks of parliaments in combating and preventing terrorism.
