Shura Council Participates in meeting of IPU Committees' Meetings

The Shura Council participated today in meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's committees and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians, which were held within the 145th General Assembly of the Union, currently being held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.
The Shura Council, represented by HE member of the Shura Council Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Dosari, participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights forms of human trafficking and human rights abuses, including those sponsored by states.
The meeting also worked on drafting a project on the aforementioned subject, in addition to addressing a number of issues related to human rights.
The Shura Council, represented by HE member of the Council Ahmed bin Hitmi Al-Hitmi, also participated in the meeting of the Union's Permanent Committee on Sustainable Development.
The committee discussed the topic of 'parliamentary efforts to achieve a negative carbon balance in forests', which is scheduled to be presented by the Committee at the 146th Assembly, and the preparations for the parliamentary meeting at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change: 'the 27th Conference of the Parties', scheduled to be held in the Arab Republic of Egypt were also reviewed.
Within the meeting, a panel discussion was also held to discuss the re-establishing of links between local communities and a sustainable local inclusive economy to achieve the objectives of Goal 8 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In a related context, the Council participated in the meeting of the Steering Committee of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. It was represented by HE Council member Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi who is also Chairman of the Union's Permanent Committee on Peace and International Security.
During the meeting, which was attended by a number of Inter-Parliamentary Union officials, the agenda of the Union's committees, as well as the programming and coordination of the meeting's works, were studied.
The Shura Council also participated in the Young Parliamentarians Forum, which was held on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Council was represented in the forum by HE Mohammed bin Omar Al-Mannai, member of the Council and also member of the Young Parliamentarians Forum.
The participants discussed recent developments in global and national youth participation, and reviewed current successes and challenges, as well as the efforts of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in supporting youth participation and activation of their role.
The forum also included a discussion session that touched on various topics, including attacks, cybercrime, and new threats to global security, as well as preparation for the 146th General Assembly, and discussion of resolutions on the agenda of the permanent committees.
In addition, the Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Assembly of Secretaries-General of national parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. It was represented in the meeting by HE Secretary-General of the Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Fadala.
During the meeting, the latest developments in the Inter-Parliamentary Union were reviewed, as well as the topic of "the resilience of parliaments in the face of humanitarian, environmental and health crises", where the experiences and tools used by secretaries-general on these crises were reviewed, in addition to issues related to the work of the General Secretariat in Parliament and legislative councils, as well as a code of conduct and ethics for parliament employees and members, and a joint session was held between the Assembly of Secretaries-General of national parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
