Speaker of Shura Council Meets French Parliamentarians

HE the Speaker of Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud met Saturday with the HE head of the Qatar-France Friendship Society at the French National Assembly Maurice Leroy and the HE President of the French Senate friendship group with the Gulf countries Jean-Marie Bockel, who are currently visiting Doha to participate in the 2018 Doha Forum.

During the meeting, they reviewed relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing and developing them in various fields, especially the parliamentary field, a number of issues of mutual concern were also reviewed.

He the Speaker of Shura Council expressed his appreciation for the great role played by the two parliamentary groups in strengthening relations between the two countries, stressing his support for their efforts and their keenness to expand and deepen cooperation between the Shura Council and the French National Assembly and the French Senate.

During the meeting, HE Al Mahmoud praised the positions of the European Parliament in rejecting the unjust siege imposed on the State of Qatar, the last of which was on December 13, where the European Parliament condemned the continuing violations and discriminatory measures of the countries of the siege against the Qatari citizens.

For their parts, the French officials called for an end to the siege and find solution through dialogue. They expressed their satisfaction with the development and excellence of the French-Qatari relations, and praised the economic and legislative renaissance in the State of Qatar and its effective role in the regional and international arenas.

The meeting was attended by members of the National Assembly of France Jerome Lambert, Naima Moutchou, Rodrigue Kokouendo, Bertrand Sorre, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the French Republic Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani, HE Ambassador of the French Republic to the State of Qatar Franck Gellet, and a number of officials of the Shura Council.
